Thursday Evening, Kennebunkport, Maine

Vacation was drawing to a close, and soon the guys would have to be back in Fandom to start another school year. Clearly, there was only one thing to do, and that was eat lobster. Lots of it. With butter.

This had been accomplished, and now they were walking back toward the B&B. It was a nice evening for a walk, Steve thought. And it would probably do Tony some good.

"My feet hurt," Tony informed them about... five minutes in.

Nathan was going to take this opportunity to shoot Tony a look. Even if it was the back of his head he was giving that look to, yes.

"Your feet hurt," he sighed.

Even if he really didn't have any right to complain. The bullet holes were kind of his own fault, after all.

And now Tyler was giving both of them Looks. They just got home from a war zone, and they were bitching about ... feet. Of course.

"How's your head, Steve?"

"It's fine," Steve said. "I'm a fast healer." His feet didn't hurt. Of course, he ran twenty miles a day, but still.

"Super soldier, yes. We know."

It was just disgusting how chipper the man was after a hook to the skull.

Nathan was possibly already plotting another fishing trip because of that.

"It can't be much farther, at least, can it?"

Dare to dream the dream, Nathan. Dare to dream.

"I think just fifteen, sixteen miles," Tyler exaggerated. "They made the road longer since we walked there."

Seriously. It was a walk. Not a death march.

A ... slightly long walk.

"The car would have been overkill," Steve insisted. "It's fine. Tyler jests."

Of course it was. Through the quaintest town outside of Gelmoore Gals. He was getting hives.

"I'm driving back to New York."

Somewhere ahead there was the beginning of a commotion. Probably s riot over fresh baked apple pies.

"We have to survive the hike back to the car, first," Nathan pointed out, raising an eyebrow at the hell being raised up ahead. "Somebody please tell me that it's perfectly normal to make that much noise in a town this size nowadays?"

Tyler shook his head, unconsciously shifting to a more alert posture and hurrying to get to the head of the group. "Not. Looks like somebody's causing trouble."

He craned his ears for the sound of bees."

Steve said, "I'm sure it's nothing to do with us."

Sometimes he was overly optimistic, yes, but he did head toward the commotion. Something seemed to be happening at the...bank. Of course. Steve very casually unbuttoned the cuffs of his shirtsleeves as he walked.

"Sacre Bleu!"

Oh yeah, nothing to do with them. Just an oddly dressed Frenchman.

"Are those sacks with dollar bill signs on them?" Tony was simply forced to ask.

"The are. And oh, look," Nathan noted, stepping up behind Tony and giving his head a shake. "Aubergine."

He had to.

"Does nobody dress normally around here?"

"We walk home from dinner and we run into a guy in a suit robbing a bank." Tyler just had to gawp for a moment. "I feel like I fell into a cliche."

"Welcome to my world," Steve said wryly as he stripped out of his dress shirt, leaving him in a t-shirt and slacks. "Usually you don't get trouble like this outside of New York, but. Could someone hold this, please? I like this shirt, and I know this guy. Tyler, you know anything about savate?"

Tony just stared, not about to be holding the male equivalent of earrings in a bitchfight.

"You know him?" A beat. "What am I saying? Of course you know him."

Nathan... Was going to be the one to sigh and hold his hand out for the shirt, yes.

He had a feeling it was better, that way.

"We shouldn't be surprised, after the bees. And that man with the eyepatch."

The one who apparently came in different hues. This alternate universe thing was going to break his brain, yet.

"French people kick things really hard?" Tyler checked. He didn't care about his polo shirt; there was a butter dribble on it anyhow. "Yeah, a little. He a kickboxer?"

The idea of hitting something had him distinctly disinclined to dwell on the cliché thing. "We shouldn't be surprised at all."

"Among other things," Steve said. "He's also a leapair." Why yes, he was making fun of Batroc's accent. Could you blame him?

He raised his voice. "Hey! Batroc!"

"Zut alors! Ah 'ave been spotted!" Batroc replied, turning in a dramatic fashion to face the menacing foursome.

It was just... not at all funny.

Except for that moustache. That part was hilarious.

"They actually say zut alors," Tyler murmured, then raised his voice in a well-considered, well-reasoned attack of logic. "Yo, Frog! France sucks."

... or not.

"Put down the money, Batroc," Steve suggested, sliding into a ready stance, because he didn't actually think he would. He just had to say it.
