Field Trip: Monday, Early Afternoon, Washington DC

"Okay," Steve announced as his students (and any of Lulu's who'd come along) filed off the bus in front of the National Gallery. "Listen up! The gallery closes at five, so meet me back here by then. If you are not here by five Lulu or I will track you down and embarrass you. Don't cause any trouble, try to learn something, and have fun. That's about it."

((Wait for OCD!OCD is up.))

Naminé stopped for lunch in the East wing, intrigued by the Espresso and Gelato sign. Both were rather nice, she had to say, as was people-watching while she nibbled.

Lulu sat in the Espresso and Gelato Bar, munching on a grilled chicken panino as she sipped at her Orangina.

Sulley was looking decidedly out of place amongst all the humans and he knew it. He felt out of place. People were looking at him. He did his best to look unassuming and fit in, but it was hard when you were big, blue and furry.

Despite his efforts, he looked very ill at ease and wasn't sure that coming along was a good idea after all.

Naminé knew that out-of-sorts feeling only too well. She wandered over to where Sulley was standing with a hopeful sort of smile.

"Have you seen the sculptures?" she asked. "They're out in the garden and there's one that I swear, I've no idea how it stands up without tilting over."

"I haven't seen them yet. I'll have to go. They sound weird. What's your favorite so far?"

"The typewriter eraser," she laughed. "It's enormous and the little bits sticking off almost look like a tail. My mind keeps wanting to see it as some sort of fish."

"Oh is that what that's called? It looks like an octopus."

Re: Look at Art

[identity profile] palestshadow.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Naminé laughed. "That settles it, then. Whoever designed typewriter-erasers must have been overly fond of aquariums. 'My, this shape seems familiar, but I can't place how.'"

"I wonder how they decide what art is good and what's not. I mean, if the octopus can get in, what stops something else as weird getting in?"

"That's where you get into all of the really interesting art movements like Dadaism," Naminé beamed. "Where people started deconstructing what art means and whether anything and everything is art, does art even exist, modernism, post-modernism, the whole lot of it. Really fun stuff, if a bit dizzying."

"Do you think I stand out, sir?"

At that moment, an elderly couple walked past, stopping to stare rudely at Sulley.

Sulley shrugged sheepishly, going along with it. The couple nodded in understanding and hurried off to look at some priceless art work. "Going through a phase," Sulley repeated. "I think I'll have to remember that one."

Sulley nodded solemnly. "I don't think they'd buy it."

Naminé couldn't help it. Something about the Typewriter Eraser, Scale X made her giggly. She stood in front of it, soaking it in.

Drifting through the sculpture garden first, A.J. realized that it was impossible for him to choose a favorite and that he was in trouble, because, at this rate, he was never going to get a chance to see what was inside because these were just amazing.

Savannah was enjoying herself as she wandered the museum.

John spent a lot of time staring at Roof, despite the chilly air outside.

Jamie was looking at some of the more innocent sculptures and trying to think of a way to make them seem dirty.

Naminé ended up with one book on Dada and one on Impressionism, and how heartbreaking that the one on Georgia O'Keefe was $150!

Okay, yeah. A.J. was spending way too much of his hard-earned income here...

Like Marco had really looked at any other part of the museum?
