Anyone looking for Steve would find a sign on his door redirecting them to the art classroom, where he'd pinned up some of the pieces the students had done so far, so their guests could see their work. Tony's blobs of color work was even represented, even if his lack of artistic skill did give Steve almost physical pain. How could someone who was so good at drafting a design be so bad at drawing a straight line?

Steve was at his desk with a box of pastries from J,GoB and a fresh pot of coffee, ready to greet anyone who stopped in, and hoping his own guest would stop lurking about the island generally being Buckyesque and stop by at some point, too.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Steve said with a shrug. "I was a lot younger then. The world was different, you know, before we knew just how bad it was going to get."

"And what winning took," Howard added, smile leaving his eyes, but not his face. "I'm sure you're busy here. Try not to break Agent Carter too much."

Steve had missed that part. Most of the time he was actually glad of it. "Actually, so far I've had only one parent. And you, if you'd like to ask how Tony's doing," he offered, even though, yes, he realized Howard was trying to extract himself.

From one subject he didn't like discussing to another! Steve had a knack for it.

"How is Tony doing then?" Howard asked after a moment. He still hadn't quite gotten used to the idea of having a son out there on the island.

"He cannot paint to save his life," Steve said with just a hint of a smile, gesturing to one of Tony's attempts. "But I appreciate the effort."

"Is it supposed to be a blob of red?" Yes, Howard. It was. He would never be the type to put this on the refrigerator, no.

Steve would! If that wouldn't be completely weird. "We haven't done abstract, but...that's as good a guess as any, yes," Steve admitted.

Then Tony would have two daddies. And it would be in fine Marvel tradition.

"He won't get any better if he doesn't practice," Steve pointed out.

"And there's no need to keep him focused on something if he has no talent for it," Howard replied dismissively. Because he was a wonderful fake dad.

Steve would have argued if he thought Tony was interested in art and just bad at it, but he didn't think that was the case. And he wasn't Steve's kid. Granted, this one wasn't Howard's kid, either. "I'm sure he's good at drafting..."
