Steve was in his office on Saturday, available to the parents of any of his students who wanted to speak to him.

He was pleased to be able to report that no one had been injured or burned the classroom down. Yet.

Which was surprising since Tony was in the class. Yes, Roberta was aware of this since he took apart her microwave at age six.

"Mr. Rogers?"

"Yes, hello," Steve said, smiling at her. "How can I help you?


((*shakes ISP until it cries, ugh*))

"Roberta Rhodes," she said, stepping forward to offer a handshake. "I'm here about Tony Stark."

"Oh, yes," Steve said, standing to shake her hand firmly. He almost said, 'Rhodey's mother,' but corrected it to, "Tony's mentioned you a time or two," at the last moment.

"He's your teaching assistant?" Something her son had to tell her. Of course. "We will cover any damages he's done to the equipment if course."

"Yes," Steve confirmed. "He is." Whether he liked it or not. "So far I've been able to rein him in. Well, mostly. I'm not sure what he did to the vaccuum cleaner, but that's Tony for you."

"That's Tony," she confirmed with a sigh. "I hope he hasn't complained too much about the class."

That she picked for him.

"No, not at all," though you could see him plotting to build a machine to boil water sometimes. "He really hasn't been a problem in the class." Out of the class was another story.

"Really?" What was with this school and Tony not whining at the teachers? "Do you blow things up on purpose too?"

Steve laughed at that. "No, I definitely don't. I try to teach them how not to blow up the kitchen. But I can see how that would appeal to Tony."

"You have more patience than I if you're willing to teach him this subject."

"Well," Steve said, "you might say I'm...particularly well-suited to managing Tony. I understand where he's coming from." Even if his universe seemed to be extremely strange in several ways.

That got Roberta to give him an interested look. "You're aware of his--more recent problems?"

"Some of them. I'm sure he hasn't told me everything." Did she know about the suit? He probably should tell her about the suit, but he was weighing getting Tony to ever listen to him again against it.

Roberta just nodded sadly. "I've heard he's part of the AV Club at least. Which means this school might be working on having him socialize at the right age level."

"The AV Club sounds like it would be a good fit for Tony," Steve agreed. "And if the vaccuum cleaner is any indicator, he's keeping himself busy." Fighting crime. "We had a bit of a problem at Career Day--some consultants I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them--" although, granted, Steve could throw your average AIM operative pretty damn far, "but it was resolved pretty painlessly."

"Anything I should be concerned about?" Ah, lawyer mama bear mode. How we loved you.

"Well, like I said, we got the situation resolved, but someone might want to give Tony a refresher course on candy and strangers?"

Roberta rubbed her forehead. "He's a bit too much like his father that way."

"I wouldn't know," Steve said, "but I'll take your word for it."

Roberta offered him a quick smile. "But I'm glad to see he's adjusting to school again."

"We're working on it," Steve said. "He still thinks he knows more than everyone about everything, of course, but he'll figure out how wrong he is." Or he'd, you know, die stupid.

"So, he's being a teenager," she replied with a smile.

"You could also say he's being Tony Stark." Except for the part where he hadn't discovered girls yet. That was weird.

Pff, like anyone wanted that. Unless you wanted to give him The Talk, Steve. Did you?

"He is a handful," Roberta granted him. "You will keep an eye on him, right?"

Since asking the teacher who blew things up and only had one arm wasn't really something she was willing to do.

It would probably sprain something in his brain, but if such an occasion should arise, Steve would do his duty. "I'll do my best," he promised. "He's definitely...something."
