An Undisclosed Location, One Week Ago
May. 7th, 2007 11:12 pm"He's waking up."
"Shhh."
"Don't shhh me--I'm going to get Fury."
And that sounded like Bucky, but when he opened his eyes there was no Bucky, just a nervous-looking nurse and a truly horrible painting of some kittens. Maybe this was hell. "Sir? Don't try to move, sir, you're still--you're safe, sir," she corrected herself. "You're safe and you're awake and Colonel Fury will be here any moment."
He nodded a little and laid back to wait, trying to piece it together. The last thing he remembered was a red dot on the marshal's back. He must have been shot.
Of course, that didn't explain where he was, or how Fury had gotten him there. "How long--" he tried again, but his mouth was incredibly dry. The nurse let him have a sip of water through a straw, and, "How long was I out?"
She opened her mouth, but it was Nick who said, "About six weeks," from the doorway. The nurse fled at his gesture. "Welcome back to the land of the living. You had us scared for a while there."
He must have been shot a lot.
Fury looked him over and said, in his typical bluntly honest way, "You look like hell." Steve just grunted acknowledgement. "Everybody thinks you're dead. So. We need a plan."
Steve eyed him warily. He didn't trust that look.
"Didn't you go to art school about a million years ago?"
"Shhh."
